The human body is made up of 75% water, and it is common knowledge that we cannot live without water. The human body can only survive for a total of three days without water. However, water has been replaced in most diets by soft drinks and other refreshments that are sweetened with sugar. It is essential to remember that water is a healthier choice and absolutely necessary for your health and longevity.

Exercise, weight and temperature can make your own personal needs for water vary greatly. Research shows that more than 2/3 of adults do not in actual fact drink enough water on a daily basis. You can replenish your body and keep it hydrated and functioning in the correct manner by drinking water on a regular basis.

Many of us only drink water when we are thirsty. It is important to remember that this is not a reliable gauge as to the amount of water that the body requires. This is because your body has already lost approximately two cups of its water supply by the time you are thirsty. Therefore it is essential that you drink water on a regular basis rather than wait until you are thirsty.

It is absolutely essential that alcoholic beverages or caffeine are not substituted for water. This is because such beverages act as a diuretic and can cause you to lose more weight through increased urination. You may believe that your body is receiving more water by drinking these beverages, however, the fact of the matter is that you are losing it as quickly as you are consuming it.

Your body requires water anytime that you undertake exercise. This is because when you exercise, you generally perspire, therefore the body is losing water. It is necessary to have an intake of two cups of water for every pound lost due to exercise. Your body loses water even when you are sleeping. By drinking a glass of water before going to bed, you will wake up to your body functioning in the correct way.

It is vitally important to remember that when you are ill, you will need more water than usual. Your body becomes dehydrated very quickly when you have the flu or a cold. By drinking sufficient water when you are sick, you will help to prevent dehydration.

Several mixed options exist about the benefits of purified water. This is something which you can explore yourself when determining which type of water is best for yourself.

Drinking water on a daily basis should become a habit. Keep a bottle of water with you at all times and drink it throughout the day. In order to replenish the nutrients that your body requires, it is essential to train yourself to drink water rather than other beverages.
