It has been proven that exercise does in fact lower blood sugar, therefore, those individuals who suffer with diabetes should measure their level of blood sugar before and after any form of exercise. Since, whilst exercising, your body uses more sugar, and it makes you more sensitive to insulin, there may a risk of blood sugar becoming too low which can cause hypoglycemia.

It is essential to inform other people that you are diabetic before undertaking any form of exercise. It is also important to inform them as to what they should do in the case of hypoglycemia. Always be prepared and ensure that you carry with you candy or fruit juice at all times to treat low blood sugar when it occurs.

Very close attention should be paid as to how you personally feel during and after you have undertaken exercise, as rapid heart beat, increased sweating, feeling shaky or hunger can all signal that your blood sugar levels are becoming too low.

Exercise is very important when it comes to the management and treatment of diabetes. By undergoing exercise you will help to control the blood sugar when the muscles use more glucose and the body becomes more sensitive to insulin.
