cortisol
Learn the basics of what cortisol is and how it works in the human body.
• Full article

cortisol is an adrenal gland hormone that belongs to the groupe of steroid hormones called glucocorticoids.

The release of cortisol is stimulated by ACTH.  The main job of cortisol is to Promote gluconeogenesis and

hyperglycemia.  It also causes the mobilization of fats for energy metabolism, also Stimulates protein catabolism.  All of these

actions are designed to help the body resist stress from the outside world.

Cortisol is certainly important to the body but in todays Society it tends to be over secreted due to the increased stress levels in our world.

overtime these elevated cortisol levels can cause problems and damage, Such as:

  • depressed bone and cartilage formation
  • depressed immune system function
  • Cause changes in cardiovascular, neural, and gastrointestinal function
