DefinitionInflammation of the Biceps tendon sheath in the upper region of the arm and shoulder joint. The biceps tendons sheat secretes a fluid that helps to lubricte the tendon as it passes over the bone. when the is inflammation of this sheath it causes the tendon to not properly glide over the bone resulting in crepitation and pain. Parts Involved- biceps tendon and biceps tendon sheath
Signs & Symptoms- constant pain or pain that is elicited upon movement
- limited or decreased range of motion of the shoulder and elbow
- crepitation when the tendon moves or is palpated
- heat and redness over the inflamed tendon
Causes- strain from unusual use of the biceps muscle
- strain from overuse of the biceps muscle
- ongoing or previous injury to the shoulder
- infection in the shoulder
Risk- bodybuilding and weightlifting
PreventionStart a strengthening and flexibility program that will help strengthen the biceps muscles and the flexibility will help maintain good health and length of the biceps tendon. always do a proper warm up of the shoulder and upper arm before engaging in any physical activity, and depending on your activity or sport learn the proper way or technique for it.
